Maintain excellent oral hygiene to help preserve your wider health

Your oral hygiene routine should include a daily at-home maintenance  regime as well as visiting a dental professional generally every six months. A sound dental hygiene routine should include:

  • Detailed brushing of your teeth: Preferably with an electric or manual toothbrush with soft bristles, to remove the daily build-up of plaque and food.
  • Flossing: Flossing is a key part of your oral hygiene routine as it can remove food particles and plaque that is stuck between your teeth. If you do not floss, this plaque can be missed and can eventually irritate your gums and cause cavities.
  • Gum care: Caring for you gums is extremely important in preventing the development of gum disease. Gently massaging your gums with your toothbrush can ensure that yours gums are both clean and healthy.
  • Tongue cleaning: Often people forget that their tongue plays a central role in your oral health. Your tongue can become coated in bacteria that can cause an unpleasant taste in your mouth, as well as bad breath. By gently brushing your tongue with your toothbrush you can also help keep it clean and healthy.
